THE BEEKEEPER - Paul Hammond

I am a local Beekeeper in Exeter and I have kept bees for 5 years.  I am a registered member of the British Beekeeping Association Exeter Branch

THE BEES

My bee colonies are located on an allotment site in Heavitree Exeter.  The bees forage on a variety of crops on the allotment including fruit trees, blackberries, loganberries, gooseberries blackcurrants and vegatable flowers such as beans as well as a variety of wild flowers and even weeds such as dandelions.  In addition they forage on the hedgerows of the country parks in close vicinity to the apiary and on the flowers and trees growing in the residents gardens in the Exeter area.

THE HONEY

The Raw honey that the bees produce is extracted in early and late summer.  The extraction process involves no heat and the honey is coarse strained and filtered just once.  The honey is not stored in bulk and is bottled into jars with a net weight of 454g within a few days.  In July and August the honey is still in a runny state but in autumn the honey will start to granulate.  In July and August I have two types of honey available - set (granulated) honey from late summer the previous year and runny honey from the current season.  By September I generally only have set honey available from the current season.

PRICE

My honey is sold in 454g / 1lb jars priced at £5.50 per jar.  It is only available direct from the Beekeeper.
